Five Assegais Hiker's Camp

  • Book Now

Completed in late 2008, God's Window Hikers Lodge is located on the Five Assegais' Estate, about 20 km outside the town of Machadodorp. It was constructed primarily to enable keen hikers to take advantage of the many trails in the area, but is also suitable for other outdoor enthusiasts.

Guests at God's Window are assured of accommodation designed to have minimal impact on the environment while making use of natural rock and features to provide you with a truly "out there" experience. Hikers have a multitude of trails at their disposal, varying from a 3km stroll to our famous 2 day Oom Paul's Backpackers Trail, developed in conjunction with the neighbouring Bermanzi Estate. Irrespective of the chosen hike, guests will be treated to spectacular waterfalls and pools, including the famous Bride's Leap Falls, the second highest in Mpumalanga.

For the flora and fauna enthusiasts, till date 108 unique indigenous trees have been tagged on our trails, including an impressive forest of yellow wood trees. Such a multitude of vegetation attracts bird life, and birdwatchers are unlikely to leave our premises disappointed. For the avid fly fishermen we have 4 well stocked trout dams, while mountain biking, quad biking (bring own bikes) and trail running are easily practised on our premises.

Facilities and Services

The owners of God's Window Hikers Lodge are proud of the natural beauty with which the Five Assegais estate has been blessed and have sought to shaer this with their guests.  To this end, a number of specially constructed trails, which vary in length and difficulty, have been constructed.  Their latest creation, Oom Paul's Trail is a 2 day moderately difficult hike opened in 2008 in conjunction with the neighbouring Bermanzi estate and has been listed by the South African Hiking Tail Owners Association as a Green Flag Trail.

For the keen fly fishermen there are four well stocked Rainbow Trout dams offering enough secluded spots to satisfy all our guests. While we do encourage a catch and release policy, some fish may be kept at a fee to be confirmed at reception prior to fishing.
