About Us
We are Alex, Claire, Danny and Gustav your local travel professionals in the Mpumalanga Highlands.

Alex and Gustav moved to the Mpumalanga Highlands ten years ago, after travelling the world and getting an understanding of the needs of adventure travellers. Soon after moving to the picturesque town of Waterval Boven (also known as the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, world-known for its fantastic rock climbing) they opened up their 1896 sandstone home for travellers as an affordable accommodation option specifically for climbers. As time went by things got a bit cramped as more and more travellers enjoyed the hospitality and friendliness that Alex and Gustav offered, not to mention Alex’ great cooking (she’s French!). When their son, Mel, was born, Alex and Gustav opened another base camp, called ‘Chateau en Espagne’ or ‘Castle in the Sky’. There has been no looking back since those humble beginnings to the mountaineering training and guided excursions they now offer through their company Roc ‘n Rope.
Danny and Claire recently made the move to Waterval Boven from Johannesburg, after years of feeling envious every Sunday evening as they waved goodbye to Alex and Gustav and started the drive back to the big city. However they are no strangers to the Mpumalanga Highlands, as they are avid rock climbers and have been climbing in the area for the last 12 years.
We are a small, but dedicated team that are all passionate about the Mpumalanga Highlands. For all of us, the allure of the travel industry is its changing dynamic – “every new day brings a different customer that has a new need!” We have inside information about how to meet your individual requests and make your holiday unique and special.
In conjunction with WHL.travel we have vowed to make a commitment towards sustainable tourism. Being passionate about the environment we also want to share our environmental knowledge with members of our diverse communities empowering them to make conscious choices. Our main sustainable tourism goals are to firstly, minimise our impact on natural resources and the environment, and secondly, to take this message to the communities in which we live, work and play.
